According to Continental, the tyre uses several technologies to reduce energy loss:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Aerodimple sidewall<\/strong> \u2014 a pattern of small dimples inspired by a golf ball&#8217;s surface, designed to reduce air turbulence behind the tyre as it rotates.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Low-friction materials<\/strong> \u2014 new compounds in the carcass, inner liner and sidewall reduce internal friction.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Energy-efficient rubber compound<\/strong> \u2014 adapted tread compound targeting lower rolling resistance while maintaining tyre longevity.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Silent tread pattern<\/strong> \u2014 engineered to minimise rolling noise, specifically tuned to frequencies common at around 50 km\/h, where urban EVs spend most of their time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The 255\/45 R20 105 V XL FR and 255\/40 R21 102 V XL FR sizes approved for the smart #5 are large-diameter, wide-profile fitments \u2014 consistent with the SUV segment&#8217;s preference for 20- and 21-inch wheels. The OE fitment covers availability across numerous countries, according to Continental&#8217;s March 10, 2026 announcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This OE contract reinforces the EcoContact 7&#8217;s positioning in the EV segment for Continental. Continental, which reported tyre division sales of \u20ac13.8 billion in 2025, has increasingly focused on EV-optimised products as automakers seek range-efficient tyres for their electric lineups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Consumer_relevance\"><\/span>Consumer relevance<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For smart #5 buyers, the factory fitment means the EcoContact 7 is a tyre specifically chosen for the vehicle, making it a strong option when replacement is needed. The tyre is a summer-type product, so owners in markets with pronounced winters will need a separate winter set.
